Ion
(noun) Electrically charged chemical species. Atom or group of bonded atoms that has lost or gained one or more electrons. Sodium ions Na+ are sodium atoms Na that have lost an electron. Sulfate ions SO42- are groups of atoms SO4 that have gained two electrons. An electron has a charge of -e.
Ionic Solution
(n.) A conductive liquid containing ions.
Iron
(n.) An atom with an atomic number (Z) of 26. It consists of 26 electrons orbiting a nucleus containing 26 protons. Its symbol is Fe. Iron is a bluish-gray metal. Its melting point is 1536°C, and its boiling point is 3000°C. Its density is 7.86 kg/L. Iron is found in its native state only in meteorites. It is capable of magnetization. Highly ductile yet strong, it can be easily worked both hot and cold. Iron oxidizes readily in humid air, forming rust. This can be prevented by coating the metal with a layer of grease, paint, or stainless metal.
Isoamyl Acetate
(n.) Molecule with the formula C7H14O2 that has a banana-like odor. It can be natural or synthetic.
Isoamyl Alcohol
(n.) Colorless liquid. It is one of the reactants in the synthesis of isoamyl acetate, a banana flavoring.
Joule, James Prescott (1818-1889)
Born in Salford, near Manchester. English physicist. In 1841, he stated the laws on the release of heat produced by the passage of an electric current through a conductor: the Joule effect. By using the friction of water on itself, he demonstrated the proportionality between heat release and the work done, thus determining the mechanical equivalent of the calorie: the joule.

Kinetic Energy
(n.) Energy of motion. The capacity of a moving object to produce effects. The greater the mass of the object, the greater the effects produced. The greater the speed, the greater the effects produced. Kinetic energy, denoted as Ec, is proportional to the mass and the square of the velocity.
Ec = 1/2 × m × v2 where Ec is in joules, m is in kilograms, and v is in m/s.
