- Balance
- (n.f.) Instrument used to measure mass.
- Bar
- (n.m.) Unit of pressure. The usual atmospheric pressure is approximately 1 bar.
- Barometer
- (n.m.) Device used to measure atmospheric pressure.
- Basic
- (adjective) Refers to an aqueous solution with a pH greater than 7 (less than 14). This solution contains hydroxide ions HO-.
- Battery
- (n.m.) Electric current generator, consisting of a set of elements (cells, accumulators, or capacitors) in series or parallel. It is recommended to return used batteries, which are highly toxic due to their chemical composition, to a garage or gas station.
- Rod
- (n.m.) Nerve cell located on the retina capable of detecting low-intensity light. These cells are also responsible for black-and-white vision. At night, the rods are active; colors are less distinguishable, but objects are seen in black and white, hence the expression "at night all cats are gray." The eye is a sufficiently refined instrument to detect a single photon.
- Coil
- (n.f.) Electrical wire (conductor and insulating sheath) wound around a cylinder. It is part of an alternator.
- Terminal
- (n.f.) Connection point of an electrical element.
- Loop (electrical)
- (n.f.) An electrical path that goes from the + terminal to the - terminal of the generator.
- Branch
- (n.m.) Portion of a circuit with derivations that goes from one node to the next. A branch consists of dipoles connected in series.
- Derived Branch
- (n.m.) Portion of a circuit with derivations that goes from one node to the next and does not contain the generator.
- Main Branch
- (n.m.) Portion of a circuit with derivations that goes from one node to the next and contains the generator.
- Fog
- (n.m.) Mass of very small water droplets suspended in the air. Fog forms near the ground. When droplet condensation is at its maximum, there is an aqueous fog called mist. When it is at its minimum, there is only haze. The phenomenon of smog occurs when fog contains small solid particles.
- Bronze
- (n.m.) (From Latin bronzo) Alloy of copper and tin, sometimes with zinc.
- Aluminum Bronze
- (n.m.) Alloy of copper and aluminum, containing 4 to 13% aluminum by mass.
- Haze
- (n.f.) (Old Provençal bruma, from Latin bruma, winter solstice) Light fog (horizontal visibility between 1 and 5 km).
- Condensation
- (n.f.) Collection of fine water droplets present on a cold surface.
- Butane
- (n.m.) Colorless and odorless gas with the formula C4H10. The boiling point of butane is -0.5°C. It is extracted from natural gas associated with petroleum. It is distributed commercially in bottles and used as fuel (heating, cooking). It also allows the synthesis of olefins and acetic acid through catalytic oxidation with air.
